How to tailor your CV for a job
Employers in Toulouges often receive many applications for one advert, and many use applicant tracking systems that search CVs for the skills the advert asks for. A CV that uses the advert's own words — where they are true for you — is easier for both the software and the recruiter to match to the job.
Step by step
- Start from your full CV. Paste it, or pick one you built in the CV builder.
- Paste the whole advert. Duties, requirements and "nice to have" lines all carry keywords.
- Review the summary. It is written for this role from the facts in your CV. Edit it until it sounds like you.
- Check the keywords. These are terms from the advert that your CV does not mention. Add only the ones you genuinely have, ideally inside a bullet that shows how you used them.
- Choose your bullet rewrites. Each one shows your original line and a version that leads with an action and the job's language. Fill any [X%] or [N] placeholder with a real figure, or remove it.
- Check how well it now matches with the ATS score or the resume score, then write a matching cover letter.
Does Expertini Intelligence invent experience?
It is instructed to use only what your CV says and to invent no employers, dates, qualifications, tools or numbers. Rewrites must start from a line that is really in your CV — any that do not are discarded before you see them. It can still get things wrong, so read every suggestion and keep only what is accurate.
Is my CV saved?
The CV text is used for the tailoring and is not stored with the result. What is saved to your account is the job details and the suggestions, so you can come back to them on any device or in the Expertini app. Your email address, phone number and links are removed before the CV is analysed.
What does it cost?
Each tailoring uses one smart request from your plan's monthly allowance, which resets on the 1st. Reviewing, editing, copying, printing and your saved tailorings are free.
Should I tailor my CV for every application?
For jobs you really want, yes. Changing the summary and the order and wording of your strongest bullet points usually takes a few minutes and makes your CV read as written for that job. Keep your original CV unchanged as the starting point for the next one.
Why is a keyword I have not listed?
A keyword appears only when it is in the advert and not already in your CV. If your CV uses a different word for the same skill, consider using the advert's word as well — recruiters and tracking systems often search for the exact term.
